Red and Yellow, Green and Gold

What is it about autumn that fills me with such comfort and sadness at the same time? I notice this most as I stand in our courtyard looking out over the gardens, eyes caught by the burnt red and apricot leaves of our smokebush, its spent blooms now looking more like pieces of hay than the pink puffs of mimosa they mimic in summer. At once I notice a feeling of longing inside, something on the verge of anxiety, but then all at once a feeling of satisfaction and comfort replaces it. Back and forth I seem to shift between sadness and a comforting sense of deja vu. Is it my youth I grieve, when schooldays brought me out into the crisp fall mornings much earlier than I would have preferred? Or is it something still unknown to me, an autumnal event which beckons my emotional memory but leaves my consciousness behind? No matter, autumn is my favorite time of year, passionate in its colors of hot flames and burning embers...seducing us into winter's long sleep.

This is a beautiful passage. I feel almost as if I might have written it myself...the way it captures the beauty of nature amidst the internal polarities that such beauty can bring us. It brought me a feeling of warmth and comfort as I read it...partly due to the words themselves and partly because I know that our spirits dwell together. I hope you continue to write more often...you are such an inspiration for me. Miss you and love you.

Thanks, Tara, for your comment. I am trying to become more involved in my blog. Right now I am working on a new template. I lost the previous Bamboo design which I loved because the jpg file was hosted somewhere else. I should have hosted it here, but I was naive and new to this. Soon I shall have a template I really like again (I hope).

Your writing is also inspiring and is such a joy to read. I am glad I can stay in touch with your current "feeling" life via this miraculous internet.

Isn't the wizardry of the internet fascinating in the networking it provides? Sometimes I play bridge online with people all over the world!

It won't be long before I see your beautiful face! x0x0x

I'm looking forward to reading more and more of your writing, though the font size is a bit challenging for my aging eyes on on my 17" monitor.

Thanks for your comment, Wenda. I am still revising the template and hope to have it finished within a few weeks. Hope this font is easier for you to read. :)

What a beautiful post! I'm exploring your blog (thank you for the kind words regarding my dad, btw).

Autumn is my favourite time of year as well. Here are a couple of posts expressing my feelings towards Fall:
